Investing in your personal and professional growth is one of the best choices you can make to improve the quality of your life.
In today's busy world, it can be difficult to make the right choices because we feel pressed for time or naturally stressed by life's responsibilities.
We often can't do everything we want to do for one reason or another, even when we really want to.
Sometimes we just feel tired, or we might think about the bad weather and how easy it would be to just stay home and relax watching TV, or for some other reason we simply lack enough motivation to do something.
Some people might procrastinate and put things off until the last minute, even when they know it's important and they should do it as soon as possible.
That's life, right? We're only human after all.
It reminds me of working out for our physical health.
We might have a nice gym membership and make the best workout schedule for ourselves, but when it comes time to put on our shoes, go to the gym, and actually do the workout, we might find ourselves not feeling 'in the mood'.
Either we do what seems easier at the moment and give up on our goals for the day, or we somehow find that inner motivation to push forward and just do it, even if it we don't want to at that moment.
There is a very special word that can help us in this kind of situation.
It's called discipline, and it basically means choosing to do something important even when we don't feel like it.
You may know the NIKE slogan 'Just Do It', which emphasizes the discipline people need to succeed in sports.
Discipline is actually a powerful mindset that can help us improve the quality of our life.
By applying discipline, we can mentally create the motivation we need to accomplish important goals and overcome personal and professional challenges.
It will definitely take a disciplined mindset to become fluent in English as a Foreign Language (EFL); there's no doubt about it.
The benefits of a disciplined mindset can often be seen in the results.
While at first we didn't feel like working out, we often feel great after finishing a workout.
We usually feel better afterwards because not only have we just accomplished an important daily goal, we also feel great knowing we just invested our time in doing something healthy and important for our future.
A disciplined mindset is just one great example of a healthy mindset that will help us improve the quality of our life.
There are many great mindsets people can study for personal and professional development.
A good definition of mindset is our attitude and the way we think about things in our life.
Some mindsets are limiting mindsets, such the (I can't) attitude and the self limiting belief that we are not good enough or capable of doing something.
Empowering mindsets, on the other hand, like the (I can) attitude, foster a belief that we can learn and grow in spite of life's challenges.
At Mindset English Academy, we will study the mindsets you need to become fluent in EFL, and more than that, go beyond English fluency by learning how to use your English skills for personal and professional development.
Here are some examples of empowering mindsets I often teach students learning EFL.
The (USE IT OR LOSE IT) mindset:
One of the best ways to learn English faster and more effectively is by using new words and concepts you want to learn in a meaningful way.
I truly believe, from my own personal experience studying other languages, that if you intentionally try to use a new word, phrase, or sentence in a meaningful way about 10 times, it will likely stick with you throughout your journey towards fluency.
The new language you use in the short-term will naturally become a new part of long-term vocabulary and language ability.
The language you don't use, you will inevitably forget.
This is great news for people learning EFL because you have two strategies for language practice, spoken communication and written communication.
While English language learners in America will have many opportunities to speak English as a Second Language (ESL) everyday, English language learners in non English speaking countries won't because they will spend most of their time speaking their country's native language everyday.
This means written communication is a valuable source for language practice and learning EFL.
Some good examples of written communication helpful for EFL are personal and professional journals, blogs, books, and taking notes.
Taking an EFL coaching course at Mindset English Academy is a great way to improve many of your English skills progressively.
With Mindset English Academy's professional coaching and support, your whole approach to mastering and using EFL skills for personal and professional development will become more efficient and effective.
Another helpful mindset is the (DO YOUR BEST, FORGET THE REST) mindset:
Improvement is process.
Whether you are learning a new language or new skill, this growth process will take time, effort, and more often than not, mistakes.
Perfection is impossible.
What is possible is doing your best, at any given time, with the knowledge and resources you have available.
I actually encourage my students to make more mistakes trying to use new language so they can learn faster from the process.
